PCB impedance matching: ensure stable transmission of the circuit

1. What is impedance matching?

Impedance matching refers to the mutual impedance matching between the signal source, transmission line and receiver in the circuit. Matching impedance can reduce signal reflection and power loss and ensure stable signal transmission.

 

2. Challenges of high-speed signals

In high-speed signal transmission, impedance mismatch can lead to signal distortion, crosstalk and delay differences, affecting circuit performance.

 

3. Impedance control in PCB design

Differential signal transmission: Using differential signal transmission can reduce the impact of impedance mismatch on the signal.

Signal level division: Different signal levels on the PCB should have matching impedances to avoid signal interference.

 

4. Calculation and simulation of impedance matching

Use PCB design tools to perform impedance matching calculations and simulations to ensure circuit layout and material selection can meet impedance requirements.

 

5. PCB material selection

 

PCB substrate material selection is critical for impedance matching. Common FR-4 fiberglass composites typically have a standard impedance of 50 or 75 ohms.

 

6. Add terminating resistor

Adding terminal resistors to high-speed signal lines can reduce signal reflection and improve impedance matching.

 

7. Signal layout and layer separation

Properly plan the signal line layout to ensure that the signal path is as short and symmetrical as possible. Separate analog and digital signals to reduce interference.

 

To sum up, PCB impedance matching is an indispensable part to ensure circuit performance and stable transmission. Through precise design, simulation and material selection, engineers can effectively achieve impedance matching and improve the reliability and performance of PCB circuits.
